The Trailer Canyon trail extends a couple miles from the top of the Temescal Ridge/Canyon loop. It has some great terrain and is a lot of fun on foggy mornings. Combined with Temescal Canyon, it makes for a 7 mile out-and-back with 1,800' of gain.
Trailer Canyon trailhead from the top of the Temescal Ridge/Canyon loop.
More great ocean views.
The ridge at the very end of Temescal Canyon.
Skull Rock.
The view from on top of Skull Rock on an overcast day.
Every turn has another angle on the amazing ocean views.
The neighborhood of Palisades Highlands above Pacific Palisades. On foggy days, you can't even see it.
Colorful spring wildflowers.
Exposed but still lots of foliage and great single track.
The same trail on a foggy (marine layer) morning.
The fog seems to accentuate the wildflower colors.
Great vista with no sign of humanity.
The foggy version of the same view. I almost like the foggy view better; it makes for an eerie run.
There are a couple sections of overhead foliage.
Welcome shade on a warm morning.
A very odd view. Open wildnerness, not a single human around, and dense downtown Santa Monica in the distance.
A look back down the trail. This section is about an 800' mile. It's really steep and can be tough to do early in the morning, particularly in Vibrams.
The destination of my standard Trailer Canyon run. Called Green Peak (or Radio Peak), it's like a mini Santiago at 1,875'.
Looking out towards Topanga State Park.
Downtown LA from Radio Peak with (I believe) San Gorgonio in the distance.
