The New Millenium Loop Trail is a convenient lollipop loop trail around an exclusive enclave of mansions in the Las Virgenes area near Calabasas. Though it's mostly dry, exposed trail, it's good for 13 miles and about 2,400' of gain.
The trail starts at the aptly named dog park "Bark Park".
Up a steady climb to the main loop. I head counter-clockwise around the loop.
Some decent views, but a dry year makes for a very brown Fall. This area is probably beautifully green in the Spring.
More valley views.
A look back down at the trail climbing up the bluffs to the New Millenium enclave.
A look down at the HUGE mansions. You know it's not the most exciting trail when the most interesting views are of houses.
Up over the ridge and looking down at the other side towards Calabasas.
Entrance to the mansion community.
Some crazy switchbacks headed back up the bluffs from the other side.
I'm guessing this bridge was built primarily for the mountain bikers.
Finally a little bit of water and tree cover.
One of the craziest set of stairs I've ever seen. 11 flights of about 20 steps each, easily a few hundred feet of total gain. If this were easier to get to, it would probably be famous for stair training.
About 3/4 of the way around the loop.
The shady side of the valley actually has some nice cover in places.
Almost back to the Bark Park leg with much nicer trail in this area.
