10/1/20 Another trip up the backside of Baldy. The National Forest was closed due to fires, but I managed to sneak in a trip to the top of Dawson Peak and Wright Mtn.
1 There's a hazy, brownish layer of smoke everywhere today from the Bobcat Fire.
2 No clear views today unfortunately, but still always awesome up here.
3 Almost to the top of Pine Mtn.
4 Heading towards Dawson now. I was originally planning on dropping down to the saddle below, but that was a little more than I was in the mood for today.
5 So I decided to head up to the top of Dawson Peak, which I had actually never done before, even though the trail passes pretty close below.
6 The water bottle is a makeshift sign-in box evidently started this year. There's a steady of stream of signatures all the way until September 9th, which is when the National Forest was shutdown. It looks like noone has been up here in the last three weeks!
7 A look back at Pine Mtn from Dawson Peak.
8 Looking West towards Mt Wilson where the Bobcat Fire is still fuming.
9 Heading back down Pine Mtn now, always need to be careful here.
10 On the way back, I decided to hit the top of Wright Mtn, which I had also never done despite being pretty close to the PCT. There's not much of a view from the top, but it was cool to check it off the list nonetheless.
11 The summit of Wright Mtn.
12 Almost back to the Acorn Trail with nice late afternoon lighting on the bowl. End to a fun, and much needed, day on the trail.
