Santa Anas

4/10/22  My fourth or fifth time doing the Silverado Foot Race and Dr. Rock's first. 6.5 miles and almost 3,000' of gain on some steep and occasionaly gnarly trail. Lots of fun!

2/28/22  Another trip around the San Mateo Peak loop, this time counter-clockwise, for almost 10 miles on a beautiful late winter day.

1/26/22  A second attempt at finding Upper Hot Spring Canyon Falls, better known as Lost Falls. This time... success! Possibly the first photo of the full falls from this vista spot in many years.

1/12/22 A short exploratory trip to try to find the lost trail to Hot Spring Canyon Falls. The trail had been recently reestablished part of the way to the falls after not being used for a few decades.

11/1/21  First trip back to the Holy Jim trail after it had been closed for over 2 years due to fire. Dad and I made it up to the fireroad enjoying perfect trail conditions and only 1 human sighting over almost 13 miles and 2,500' of gain.

6/1/21  What was supposed to be a 14 mile, fairly easy hike turned into 20 miles and over 3,800' of gain on a warm day. And a very close encounter with a rattlesnake added to the adventure.

5/16/21  About 11 miles down the closed Lucas Canyon trail on a cold, rainy day. The weather, combined with overgrown trail, made for a most excellent adventure.

4/29/21  Another trip down San Mateo Canyon, this time starting from the Fisherman's Camp trailhead and making it almost to the Indian Potrero trail. Over 13 miles and 2,000' of gain on a hot but beautiful day.

3/4/21  A nice 10 mile out and back down the Tenaja Trail to the bottom of San Mateo Canyon. Beautiful singletrack still wet and green from rain the day before.

4/26/20  10.5 miles and almost 2,000' of gain up the San Juan trail with Dad and Tara. It was a fun day, despite being over 90 degrees!

12/27/18  A rare chance to see snow in the Santa Anas! Dad took me on a nice 10 mile loop to San Mateo Peak starting and ending at the Morgan trailhead.

2/23/18  Dad introduced me to a great new trail that heads towards Blue Water Canyon and Tenaja Falls from the Murrieta side of the Santa Anas. 12 miles of great single track without seeing another human all day!
