8/6/20 My second time doing the Baldy Loop, this time on my birthday. 22 miles and 7,800' of gain makes for a great birthday present!
1 Heading up Icehouse Canyon with a decent amount of water still flowing.
2 More Icehouse shots.
3 Nice Baldy views.
4 The first of the Three T's- Timber.
5 Heading up to the second, and hardest, of the Ts- Telegraph.
6 Looking out from the saddle below Telegraph Peak, one of my favorite spots in the area.
7 Looking the other way from the saddle.
8 Nice view from just below Telegraph Peak.
9 View from the top of Telegraph. That's still a long ways to go to Baldy!
10 Great views from the top of Telegraph.
11 360 view from Telegraph.
12 Last of the three T's- Thunder with a view up at Telegraph where I just was.
13 The old ski lift on top of Thunder. It's amazing this thing is still operational.
14 Almost down to The Notch.
15 They have a disc golf course here now!
16 Top of the ski lift above the notch.
17 This sign means I'm about to get back on some fun trail!
18 Heading up the Backbone.
19 A look at the small section of the Backbone trail that probably has more exposure than any other trail in SoCal.
20 Slip and you die. Period.
21 The final ascent up Baldy.
22 Made it!
23 Hazy look out at Iron Mtn and beyond.
24 Heading down one of my favorite sections of the Bear Canyon trail.
25 Canyon of the East Fork, as deep as the Grand Canyon.
26 A look across at the Three Ts. Hard to believe I just went across those as part of the same hike!
27 Water still flowing in Bear Creek. End to a tough but fun birthday! Well not quite the end, I had to give a ride to yet another group that had hiked down Bear Canyon instead of Ski Hut and ended-up miles from their car. It's amazing how many people make that mistake!
