Leo Carrillo has some great trails that start right at PCH and have some of the best ocean views in the area. The trails here are good for 7-10 miles and a couple thousand feet of steep gain.
Heading up the canyon away from the coast on the Nicholas Flat trail.
A prominent peak at 550'.
Amazing ocean views and no one around.
The same view on a different day, looking down at the marine layer.
A look at the destination peak above.
Looking down at the first peak below.
Once up to the ridgeline, there's some great single track.
I'm not sure the name of the peak, but it's at 1700' and makes for a great destination.
Amazing ocean views.
180 degrees of ocean.
Well worth the climb.
A panoramic view South towards the ocean.
A panoramic look inland towards Boney Mountain.
From the peak, the trail continues on through a large meadow. It's probably beautifully green in the Spring.
Nicholas Flat and the "lake".
The lake at a different time of year. Only a wet spot.
Renovation work to a small recreation area. It looked like there had been heavy damage in the previous year's floods.
Heading down almost back to the beach, this time down the Willow Creek trail.
Almost back to the trailhead, one of the most beautiful trailheads I've ever run.
