After a long flight, we have the afternoon to ourselves in Buenos Aires where we explore the Recoleta Cemetery.
After the long flight from Orange County by way of Dallas, we were met at the airport by our private tour guide Marina. She suggested we explore the Recoleta Cemetery on our own that afternoon. So we did. Here Dad is looking at the map of the almost 5,000 vaults in the cemetery.
The Recoleta Cemetery is considered one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. That seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but it is indeed impressive.
All of the vaults are above ground. Some are very ornate, while others are more minimal.
Some of the vaults are very well maintained, while others are falling into disrepair.
One of the newer vaults.
One of the older vaults, many of which have beautiful stained glass windows.
After searching for a while, we found the tomb of Eva Perón, heroine of Argentina.
Compared to many others, her tomb is actually quite modest.
One of the many long, narrow corridors of tombs. Eery yet beautiful at the same time. Later that night, we had our first of many amazing steak dinners.
