5/10/15 A camping trip to San Gorgonio with friends gave me the chance to get in a 16.5 mile run with almost 3,000' of gain on some great singletrack. I almost made it up to Dry Lake and then took a detour to Jenks Lake on the way back.
1 I started from the Barton Flats campground and had some trouble finding the South Fork trailhead from there. I ended-up adding a few extra miles, but at least I know the area well now!
2 Heading up the South Fork trail.
3 The first signs of snow at just over 7,000'. There was a short snowstorm a few nights earlier that probably added a little to what was left of the snowpack.
4 Great singletrack winding through the forest with occasional small creeks. There would probably be a lot more water in a wetter year.
5 Soft, cushy trail in places, tecnical and rocky in others.
6 Love this sign.
7 The San Gorgonio summit.
8 A closer peak and still quite a bit of snow on top.
9 The snow and ice started to get a little heavier, and I had already passed my turnaround time. So, this would have to be my destination for the day, just short of Dry Lake.
10 On the way down, I found the route I had hoped to take on the way up, which passes by Jenks Lake. Too crowded for my taste, but beautiful nonetheless.
