The land for the park was donated in 1989 by the Staunton family who had a large ranch here since the early 1900s. Many of the original structures still remain…
Staunton is also a populate rock climbing area with access trails in several places.
Further into the park, the trail enters some nice forested areas.
The Scout Line trail is one of the few 'hiker only' sections and has some great singletrack.

The Lion's Back ridgeline with Lion's Head Peak to the left. There's a trail that goes out to the tip of the lion's head, definitely one to try another time.
Approaching Elk Falls Pond. It looks entirely frozen over despite temps in the 40s today.
Down at pond level now, it's a great spot for lunch.

The water is still flowing, but it's frozen all around.
It's a fascinating effect as the stream flows over the waterfall, into a hole in the ice, and then continues downhill under the ice.
