On our second day in Buenos Aires, we take a private tour of the city, stopping at several great locations from La Boca to San Telmo, and then ending with an amazing Tango show.
We're picked up in the morning from our hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Recoleta for our private tour for the day. As we start the drive, we catch a nice view of downtown Buenos Aires.
First we stop at the Plaza de Mayo and see the Casa Rosada (Pink House), which is the presential mansion and office for Argentina, similar to our White House. Evidently, much of this area had been closed to the public for years until the fencing was removed by the recently elected president.
On the other side of the Plaza de Mayo is the monument commerating the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo who campaigned for the children that dissapeared during the military dictatorship at the end of the 20th century.
The Economic Ministry building.
Then we drove on to La Boca, definitely my favorite area of Buenos Aires.
This is the stadium of La Boca Juniors, one of the top clubs in Argentina.
Dad and I in front of the stadium.
Some of the fantastic street art in La Boca.
The colors are amazing.
Cruising down one of the streets in La Boca.
More fascinating street art.
Next we stop at the port at the mouth of the river (La Boca means The Mouth).
Then we headed to Teatro Colón for a quick tour. We were a little skeptical at first, but it turned out to be amazing.
The theater was built in 1857 and recently finished a major refurbishment in 2010.
The reception hall that recently hosted the G20 conference.
Then we got to see the theater itself, which is considered acoustically to be one of the 5 best theaters in the world. It is truly impressive.
Looking towards the back of the theater.
And towards the ceiling, where there's a hidden compartment for a choir to sing when angelic voices from the sky are needed.
Then we headed to the Palermo neighborhood.
And then to San Telmo, where this old building has been converted into a modern, indoor mall.
A beautiful display of fruit at the San Telmo market.
Dad and I stop for empanadas for lunch.
Dad posing with our guide Marina as we finish our tour for the day.
With the remainder of our afternoon, we decide to visit the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Musem of Fine Arts).
Then we pass by the University of Buenos Aires School of Law.
There's an amazing old tree across the street.
Dad posing by one of the many monuments in this area of Buenos Aires.
For the evening, we were driven to La Ventana in the San Telmo area of town for a Tango show.
The food was amazing, and the show was even better.
There wasn't supposed to be photography allowed, but I just had to take a few.
The show was fantastic. Probably one of the best live shows I've ever seen.
The music was great as well.
Afterwards, Dad posed with one of the Tango dancers.
And so did I. End to an amazing night and stay in Buenos Aires.
