7/1/21 The second leg was Mt. Baldy via Bear Canyon. 13 miles and 6,000' of gain on a warm day. Always a challenge, especially with a tough bout of Achilles tendonitis.
1 Heading out mid-afternoon on a warm summer day.
2 The switchbacks coming out of Bear Flat are definitely tough on a warm day. But I'm up on the ridge now where the temperature always drops. And there's a nice ocean view today.
3 The views of the East Fork gorge are always a highlight of this route.
4 Walking along the ridge.
5 The Great Smoky Mountains of SoCal.
6 Almost to the top.
7 Made it to the top. A hazy view of Gorgonio and San Jacinto in the distance.
8 Heading back down. The sun is getting low now making for great lighting across the ridge.
9 A beautiful sunset.
10 The last very long and low rays of the sun.
11 A nice reddish glow on the ridge.
12 Coming back down Bear Canyon. It would be complete darkness and headlamp the rest of the way.
