7/2/20 My first double summit of Baldy! To the top and down twice via the Register Ridge to Ski Hut loop. First counter-clockwise, then clockwise, for 7,500' of gain in just 15 miles.
1 Heading out on a warm, but beautiful day. Hoping for my first Baldy double summit.
2 Heading up Register Ridge. 2,500' in 1.2 miles. Always one of the toughest sections of trail in SoCal.
3 A look out at the Notch.
4 Upper part of the Backbone trail towards the summit.
5 This always reminds me a little of Half Dome where you can see the little ants all the way up to the top.
6 Snow in early July!
7 Just about to the top, looking back at Gorgonio and San Jacinto.
8 First summit successful! It was way too crowded on top, so I didn't stay for long.
9 Looking down from the top of the Bowl as I head back down.
10 I hit the bottom, took a quick break, then turned around and headed back up. The whole way up, everyone that was headed down kept saying "didn't we just see you on top!?!?".
11 I was rewarded for my second summit by seeing some Bighorn Sheep.
12 They're rare to see around here, and I was able to get pretty close.
13 And then I saw a whole herd of 10 of them! By far the most I've ever seen at once.
14 Second summit. This time, I'm the only person on top. That's probably even more rare here than seeing 10 Bighorn Sheep!
15 360 summit video with the summit all to myself!
16 I liked how the stenciled sign was backlit here. Then it was time to head back down Register Ridge, the best E-ticket trail ride in all of SoCal! A very challenging, but fun day.
